SoCo, Rotherhithe
London
In 2022, the SoCo commissioned Studio Multi to design their flagship project- a mixed-use coliving community with workspace and on-site affordable homes next to St Olavs Church in Rotherhithe.
The project comprises two buildings that form a new street between them linking Southwark Park from the west to historic Rotherhithe toward the east.
The main building provides 216 generously sized shared living studios, with a plethora of shared amenity spaces arranged strategically around the building. Existing workspace on the site is replaced with two floors of flexible Class E space suited to managed workspace and coworking.
The smaller building provides 24 on-site affordable homes for families, along with a community cafe at ground level as part of the mixed-use commercial offer.
The main building is 16-storeys in height, which has been sculpted to accommodate a protected view from Greenwich Park toward Tower Bridge and St Paul’s Cathedral. This has resulted in the creation of a generous roof terrace connected to one of the key amenity levels, with fantastic views toward the River Thames and landmarks of London.
The smaller affordable housing building has been designed in the same facade quality as the main building and opens onto Christopher Jones Square - a small local park that will be refurbished as part of the project with a sensory playground for children with special needs.
